Senior Accountant

Goodheart-Willcox Publisher is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our experienced team. This individual will be responsible for analyzing and reviewing all aspects of the accounting and financial operations of the company. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, highly organized and has a positive attitude. This position is a hybrid work schedule which is a combination of working from home and working in the office a minimum of two days per month.
What you’ll do:
- Perform accounting functions as assigned including preparing and recording journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and resolving exceptions. Maintains and balances subsidiary ledgers.
- Reconcile and record all entries inventory-related (LIFO reserve, obsolete inventory, variances).
- Update the exchange rate in ERP monthly; record exchange rate gain/loss.
- Reconcile equity accounts and record all ESOP-related entries.
- Compute quarterly sales returns and related reserves (inventory and royalty).
- Reconcile accounts payable, accruals; analyze monthly accruals to ensure completeness.
- Prepare monthly cost center reports, financial statements, variance analyses, travel & entertainment variance report.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- A minimum of three years’ accounting experience is required.
- CPA is a plus.
- Strong technical accounting skills. Familiarity with ESOP accounting is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
- Intermediate level Excel skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics is preferred.
- Publishing industry experience is a plus.
