Summary:
The Senior Director, Business Development supports RUSH leadership across the system in the growth of business through additional sites of care, professional service agreements, clinical affiliations, referral networks, and acquisitions, all in support of growing reach for Rush University System for Health. This leader partners with internal and external clients to develop, execute, and support implementation plans for these services.
The role will lead, plan, organize, and direct RUSH business development, as well as activities related to expansion of RUSH relationships that deliver sustainable growth, consistent with patient profiles and with the overall RUSH strategic plan. Business development will include such functions as referral development activities, offering a consistent and dedicated approach to sales processes, uncovering new business opportunities, and measuring return on investment of those activities.
The position interacts with internal and external RUSH leadership, physicians, and other members of the medical community to effect favorable relationships with RUSH. The position requires delivery of sustainable census growth consistent with patient profiles reflected in market development strategy.

Required Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Minimum of 6 years of related work experience in business development, preferably in developing or operating a patient services program in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in new program development and customer service-oriented program management.
- Strong organizational, financial, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with others.
- Experience in managing permanent and volunteer staff.
- Excellent team building and facilitation skills.

Responsibilities:
Physician and Practice Recruitment:
- Focuses on leading development and execution of RUSH outreach strategy, including sourcing and new business development of physician/organizational relationships, in partnership with Rush Medical Group leadership.
- Provides leadership externally and internally on the physician sales component of referral development, resulting in awareness of the RUSH brand and clinical services, ultimately facilitating patient growth.
- Serves as an advisor and provides guidance on referring physician communications and other strategies.
- Leads development of useful information system tools for monitoring and assessing referral value of off-campus locations and referring physician/hospital activity.
- Builds and develops strong relationships with the provider community to ensure that contractual relationships lead to meaningful and effective partnerships that balance the best interests of both parties.
- Establishes plans and strategies to expand customer base and contributes to development of training and educational programs for existing and potential referral sources.
- Develops three- to five-year budget projections (including volume and expenses). Annually develops detailed budgets and performs financial analyses as necessary to ensure fiscally-responsible operation of programs.
- Assesses and evaluates programs against agreed-upon internal and externally benchmarked metrics to develop plans to meet productivity, quality, and patient-satisfaction goals and objectives.
Management of External Partnerships:
- Initiates and maintains strategic relationships with stakeholders inside and outside of RUSH (e.g., physicians, cross-functional partners, payers, suppliers, community representatives, board members) to advance clinical and business goals.
- Develops an external relations strategy and a program to support growth initiatives and successful sites of service.
- Leads project management of key strategic alliances that are consistent with Rush goals and objectives, including expanding service and increasing patient access to Rush domestically and internationally.
- Coordinates and progresses deals and acquisitions with RUSH internal constituents – legal, finance, strategic planning, operations.
- Develops and maintains a set of Key Performance Indicators for evaluating potential external relationships. Evaluates and monitors performance of ongoing relationships.
- Creates and leads a partner steering committee to help drive collaborative decisions for the organization.
- Supports the internal Rush External Strategic Initiatives Team (ESIT) meeting.
- Positions departments to support RUSH’s Mission, Vision, and Values and develop strategies that support core investments and organizational goals
Physician Liaison Management:
- Recruits, hires, and manages personnel, including a team of Physician Liaisons. Conducts annual reviews and provides appropriate development plans.
- Develops program and department goals and objectives and establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operations. Establishes performance goals and allocates resources for staff within the department to meet these goals and objectives.
- Identifies and adopts best practices for customer service and methods of continuous improvement.
- Integrates related services throughout RUSH to provide seamless services from a patient’s perspective.
- Implements methods of communication and marketing to ensure that RUSH staff and patients are aware of services.
