Job Summary
The University of Utah seeks a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who provides leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all aspects of the University’s financial resources while ensuring absolute institutional integrity on fiscal matters. The CFO is responsible for the fiscal health of the university, formulating the university’s financial strategy and directing and overseeing all financial activities and the budget processes. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), serving as a member of the president’s cabinet and senior leadership team, and working closely with the president, provost, and senior vice president (SVP) for health sciences, the CFO has a direct, positive, and long-term impact on the university’s mission, vision, and goals.
Responsibilities
The CFO serves as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and recommends financial objectives, policies, programs, and practices that ensure a sound financial structure for the University. Responsibilities include:
- Long-range financial planning
- Budget planning
- Capital financing and investments
- Delivering a long-term sustainable economic model that ensures both the viability and vitality of the University
As a key institutional leader, the CFO will encourage bold thinking, bring wise counsel, and be committed to the continuous evolution of a first-class finance function.
Minimum Qualifications
- Fifteen-plus years of experience in financial leadership roles in large, complex environments, with a thorough understanding of all elements of financial management.
- A strong strategic orientation, with the ability to serve as a thought partner and advisor.
- Expertise in financial models, financial analysis, performance measures, and metrics.
- A collaborative leader with experience in management roles.
- Experience or strong knowledge of healthcare organizations.
- Knowledge of best-in-class financial processes and technologies.
- Strong academic credentials, including a preference for an M.B.A. and/or related graduate degree(s) or CPA.
