Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the CEI leadership team, the Director of Global Development will design and help oversee international partnerships, policies, and programs that advance the Institute’s research and teaching missions and enhance the University's global reach. The Director will play a key role in supporting the planning and execution of CEI’s international efforts, ensuring that the Institute has the capacity to deliver on an ambitious international agenda spanning research, education, and outreach. The incumbent in this role must work well with internal and external teams and have the ability to represent the University well to a broad range of constituents and partners. This position leads the planning, development, and implementation of University objectives, long-range and strategic plans, and identifies the University’s strengths and weaknesses. Identifies new external partners to advance strategic priorities.
Responsibilities
- As part of the CEI leadership team, supports the development and implementation of the CEI global strategy through international engagement, program planning and execution, and financial, administrative, and regulatory/compliance oversight.
- Works with CEI leadership to engage key global partners and networks.
- Facilitates international research, exchange and academic programs across degree and non-degree areas, including through the development of partnership agreements.
- Supports implementation components of degree and non-degree international educational programs.
- Supports the development and administration of internships and other student-facing opportunities.
- Leverages UChicago Global presence to support student and faculty programs, research initiatives and public facing events for CEI.
- Manages compliance and risk aspects of CEI global activities.
- Collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to develop new partnerships and ensure CEI adherence to university policies.
- Provides leadership for and oversees all financial, purchasing, grant, facilities, human resources and support services management activities for unit.
- Manages employees through senior managers. Oversees the development of performance goals, establishes the structure for allocating resources and assessing division or University policies.
- Leads the creation and maintenance of an international outreach database. Prepares and implements campus-based itineraries for visiting international delegations.
- Establishes and maintains a database of peer and competitor profiles. Helps develop and maintain a database of faculty (international) research topics and international inter-institutional collaborations.
- Develops, maintains, and leads analyzing catalogs and registries of information about student, staff, and faculty international travel.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
- Advanced degree in public policy, business administration, or a related field.
Experience:
- Significant experience working with an academic institution with global presence.
- Knowledge of higher education and the University of Chicago.
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years of professional experience in academic administration.
- At least ten years of experience working in higher education, preferably in a coordinating or leadership role.
- Managing budgets, making decisions, and negotiating contracts.
