About The TeamSmartThings is seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join the Device Architecture Cloud (DArC) Team. The DArC team develops the core APIs used by all devices on our platform to control, react to, onboard, and list devices. As a member of the Device Architecture Cloud Team, you will contribute to:
- Implementing microservices surrounding devices, the device's last known state, and their events.
- Being attentive to devices, event volume and user requests (~250M /hr) as well as helping implement corrective measures for scalability, reliability and performance.
- Abstracting the basic building blocks of a device into reusable pieces on the platform.
- Facilitating the many ways a device can be incorporated into a user account.
- Maintaining the communication between the device and the SmartThings platform.
Key Responsibilities- Comfortable working in all phases of the software development lifecycle from planning to deployment and support.
- Each SmartThings team has extreme ownership of their services. It is the responsibility of the team members to own ops, production support, on-call support, and system maintenance.
- Operate in a test-driven, continuous integration environment.
- Fulfill key strategic outcomes like reliability, quality, and testability.
- Openly collaborate with team members on design discussions and project execution.

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent engineering experience.
- 5+ years of experience demonstrating proficiency in Java, Kotlin, object-oriented design, and/or C-based/inspired programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, C++, Rust, etc.
- Strong experience with modern non-blocking/asynchronous server frameworks like Micronaut, Spring Boot, Node.js, Spring WebFlux, etc.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Comfortable independently developing an understanding of an existing codebase in order to implement new features. Contributions to open source projects are a bonus.
- Experience with large complex microservice architecture and service-to-service interconnectability.
- Experience with Linux systems.
- Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs.
- Experience operating production services in a cloud-based environment like AWS or GCP.
- Comfortable deploying and managing infrastructure as code using Terraform.
- Excellent communication and people skills. Comfortable presenting to both internal and external executive audiences.
- Generally identifies as a hard working, light hearted, growth mindset individual.
Desired Skills- Experience with RatPack is a plus.
- Experience with Java & Kotlin.
- JVM web frameworks. Micronaut, Spring Boot, etc.
- Experience with asynchronous server-side programming.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or DynamoDB.
- Experience with Kafka.
- Experience with IoT device applications.

Compensation for this role for a candidate based in Minneapolis is expected to be between $108,743 and $157,677.
