Position Summary
The Plant Life Management (PLM) engineer performs all applicable project lead duties involving condition-based risk and reliability of critical components within the power plant fleet. These risks include safety, financial, and unit impacts that would be caused by the failure of those plant components. The PLM engineer applies in-depth technical expertise, inspection/assessment techniques, and industry practices to provide sound recommendations for component risks and failure mitigation. This is achieved by performing engineering field inspections, calculations, and evaluations regarding component repair or modification; providing direction on component repairs and fitness for service; performing failure analyses and material condition assessments; reviewing material specifications and requirements; and determining future inspection intervals of plant components to ensure safe and reliable operation within the PLM program.
Focus areas include integrity of high energy steam piping, hangers, supports, and welds; material stresses and loadings; flow accelerated corrosion, and mechanical failure mechanisms. Performs as a staff advisor or consultant in a technical specialty, a type of facility or equipment, or a reliability program function. Represents the organization as the primary technical contact for PLM activities, projects, and contractors working with cross-functional teams and customers. Work is largely self-managed with latitude in planning, prioritizing, and determining technical objectives and deliverables. The PLM engineer may assign or direct tasks to other engineers, technicians, craft personnel, and administrative staff.
