Job Summary
The Dentist provides professional dental care, emergency dental treatment, and oral hygiene to the patients of Columbia Valley Community Health (CVCH), including all relevant and required chart documentation.
Job Specific Competencies
- Follows all procedures as outlined in the Clinic Safety Manual and Dental Clinic Blood Born Pathogen Compliance Manual.
- Delivers dental care according to clinic protocols and procedures.
- Provides general and comprehensive dentistry services at CVCH, including performing oral examinations.
- Examines patients’ teeth and oral soft and hard tissues using dental equipment and X-rays.
- Updates health history on all patients.
- Establishes working relationships with local dental providers.
- Diagnoses dental conditions and plans oral health care in consultation with patients.
- Provides dental care within the scope of licensure, standard of care, scope of care of the clinic, and according to WAC guidelines and regulations.
- Coordinates patient needs with Medical Clinic.
- Teaches patients about good oral health practices and explains and reviews treatment plans with patients and parents.
- Performs emergency procedures on patients to reduce or eliminate immediate pain.
- Performs surgical operations to the mouth, jaws, teeth, and related structures.
- Administers local, general, and inhalation anesthetics when necessary for treatment.
- Responsible for dental clinic operation in absence of Dental Clinic Management.
- Assists in the provision of continuing education and on-the-job training of dental staff.
- Travels to other sites and covers other schedules when necessary.

Job Specifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited dental school with a DDS or DMD degree, and/or completion of a CODA accredited dental residency program.
- Certification/Licensure: Washington State Dental License or eligibility to obtain licensure in WA and current DEA with no restrictions. Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Experience: One or more years of experience as a clinical dentist preferred, especially in a community or public health setting.
- Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Good eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual—English/Spanish preferred.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills required.
- Essential Physical Requirements: Prolonged sitting or standing may be required.
- Essential Mental Abilities: Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings.
- Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to read and convey detailed information orally and in writing.
- Exposure to Hazards: Exposure to sharps, potentially dangerous chemicals, and communicable diseases common to a clinical environment.
