A Day in Your Life at MKS:
In this position, you will contribute to the design and development of new free-space and fiber-based laser systems, providing advanced electrical hardware and embedded system design to enable new laser technologies. You will report into a Senior Manager, Systems Design Engineering.
You Will Make an Impact By:
- Board & system-level electrical hardware design, from concept design through schematic capture, PCBA design, cable design & test development.
- Provide hands-on assistance to optical engineers in laboratory experiments. Hands-on troubleshooting of electro-optical systems.
- Design mixed-signal embedded control systems using ST Micro-ARM, ADC & DAC, glue FPGA, low noise laser diode drivers, optical detectors, giga-sample/second DAC circuits.
- Precision low-noise analog circuit & power converter design (1 Watt to 2 kW).
- Provide design guidance to more junior designers on the team.
- Support new releases through the certification process (CE/EMI/EMC/RoHS/Safety).
- Support release to Production – guide NPI manufacturing engineers. Design PCBA functional test fixtures & test procedures.
- Work in a collaborative environment sharing ideas, practices & design modules.
- Support existing products by performing failure analyses & troubleshooting.
- Coordinate closely with optical engineers, physicists, marketing & customers to develop, deliver & support industry-leading laser systems.
Skills You Bring:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related (ex. mechatronics, computer engineering) field and 7+ years of experience.
- 7+ years of circuit fundamentals.
- 7+ years of LTSpice or other circuit simulation tool.
- 7+ years of I/O devices (ex. ADC, DAC, and FPGA and interfaces such as I2C, SPI, RS-232, Ethernet & USB).
- Precision analog low noise circuit design.
- 7+ years of using test equipment (ex. DVM, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, function generators).
- Excellent communication, documentation & organizational skills.
- Detail oriented & quality driven. Committed to meeting schedules, able to balance performance, cost & time constraints.
Preferred Skills (any of these are helpful):
- Masters degree in related technical field.
- Altium Designer Experience.
- FPGA development (ex. AMD (Xilinx) & Vivado (Verilog)).
- High Voltage Expertise (up to 5kV).
- RF design (40 MHz to 1 GHz, 1 to 10 Watt).
- GS/sec DAC experience (LTC2000 or equivalent).
- Programming C++, C#, Python.
- Experience working with distributed teams.
- Precision equipment design & development. Semiconductor capital equipment. Experience with lasers or electro-optics.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary Pay Range: $111,900.00 to 207,900.00 per year. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
Bonus: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS.
