DESCRIPTION
The Sr. Casualty Risk Analyst will assist the Director of Risk Management in the implementation of the corporation’s property and casualty risk management programs with an emphasis on Workers’ Compensation claims. In addition to providing technical claim support and monitoring third party and/or carrier activity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Supervise internal Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Auto Liability, and Property claims reporting, investigation, and depositions.
- Act as a Workers’ Compensation claims resource to corporate and business unit management, Human Resources, Benefits, and supervisory personnel.
- Monitor Casualty, with an emphasis on Workers’ Compensation claims, including close supervision of large and/or severe cases.
- Consult with attorneys, adjusters, carriers, and vendors regarding claims or claims services.
- Assess the reserve practices of claims administrator.
- Implement and/or support corporate-wide return to work/transitional duty programs.
- Conduct periodic claims review audits to evaluate and direct TPA performance.
- Analyze claim trends and develop recommendations for improving safety and claims management efforts.
- Provide data input and maintain claims administrator and RMIS system comments and recommendations pursuant to best practices and account instructions.
- Maintain a diary system and complete a claims analyst summary form timely and consistently.
- Attend business unit claims reviews as necessary.
- Monitor and oversee subrogation files, maintaining up-to-date reporting on recovery efforts.
- Provide ongoing risk management support and assistance as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- College Degree, CWCL or equivalent, Insurance license in work jurisdiction.
- Effective communication – Able to adjust communication style. Has strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills; must be able to interface with all levels of corporate staff.
- Time management skills, flexible and able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Evaluate and assess risk – Evaluate risk and prioritize actions based on risk and impact to the organization.
- Analytical thinking – Able to quickly process data and facts to arrive at a logical conclusion and ask well thought-out questions that contribute to identifying an answer/solution.
Technical Skillsets
- Computer skills, experienced in Windows environment, Word, Excel, and use of online claims data systems.
- Ability to learn new systems/software for claims processing, process documentation, or other technology utilized in day-to-day activities.
- 7 plus years of Workers’ Compensation claims experience, with multiple state programs.
- Assist in the collection and management of current and historical exposure information on a timely basis for all risk financing/insurance programs.
- Arrange for timely payment of all costs associated with the cost of risk; keep accurate records of risk management expenses, deductibles, and costs for unreported claims.
- Prepare reports to corporate and business unit management regarding Workers’ Compensation claims including large and/or severe cases.
- Assist in the development and updating of claims procedure manuals and conducting training for management and business units.
- Provide new locations with claims packets for claim reporting, while continuing to update training for the business units and supervisors.
- Thorough knowledge of casualty coverage, terms, conditions, and exclusions as well as insurance case law and basic tort law.
