Senior level role that reviews new and renewal commercial and supported excess liability risks to determine acceptability for quoting and binding business (within the underwriting authority granted by carriers).
In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from the office. Candidates should reside within approximately 35-50 miles of one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110; Denver, CO 80112; Eden Prairie, MN 55343; Keene, NH 03431; St. Joseph, MO 64507; Phoenix, AZ 85034; Nashville, TN 37214.

Primary Accountabilities
- Applies insurance and risk concepts to underwrite new and renewal business based upon carrier underwriting guidelines and authority. Depending upon product, underwriter may re-underwrite based upon policy guidelines. Escalates more complex risk to appropriate carrier underwriting team.
- Reviews and analyzes claims and loss history, considering appropriate action on individual accounts and/or program or territory.
- Establishes rapport with agents and sales management in their area of operation. Serves as a resource for the field force and sales management.
- Serves as technical resource in excess and surplus underwriting environment and principle contact for agents; monitors agency performance, recommends, and executes remedial action plans to address quality of business.
- Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups.
- Uses expert knowledge of surplus lines and competitive markets to proactively identify trends and root causes that affect profit and growth. Evaluates effect on business results and provides recommendations. Assists with the research, development, and presentation of new programs.
- Mentors and guides less experienced team members and assists in the development of underwriting training.
- May be required to complete other assignments or participate in projects based upon skills, achievements, or experience.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency using PC software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of commercial lines and excess and surplus products and services.
- Demonstrated experience underwriting commercial, excess and surplus and specialty personal lines products.
- Extensive knowledge and application of underwriting concepts and regulations for excess/surplus coverages for admitted and non-admitted carriers.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Licenses
- Resident state licensing exam(s) for property and casualty producer licenses within 30 days of hire.
- Property and casualty producer licenses for all operating and/or service states must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
- Required to maintain current, active license(s) status by continuing education and meeting all state, operating and regulatory requirements.
