Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) with a passion for surgery to join our team as the CVT Surgery Lead. The CVT Surgery Lead will play a pivotal role in overseeing and assisting with surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and surgical excellence. This position offers the opportunity to lead a dynamic surgical team in a collaborative and supportive environment, as well as a chance to participate directly in the hospital's leadership team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate surgical procedures, including pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative care.
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment and instruments are properly prepared and utilized.
- Monitor patient vital signs during surgery and recovery, providing immediate intervention as needed.
- Communicate with clients regarding their pets' surgical procedures, ensuring clear understanding of the proposed treatment plan, including risks, benefits, and alternatives.
- Provide estimates for surgical procedures, discussing financial obligations and payment options with clients to ensure transparency and clarity.
- Educate clients on post-operative care instructions and expectations, addressing any questions or concerns to ensure compliance and optimal patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to develop treatment plans tailored to each patient's individual needs, taking into consideration medical history, diagnostic results, and client preferences.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting all aspects of patient care and client communication to ensure continuity of care and legal compliance.
- Train and mentor veterinary technicians in surgical techniques, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical instrument handling.
- Maintain surgical equipment, ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to develop and implement protocols for surgical procedures and patient care.
- Participate in continuing education to stay current on advancements in surgical techniques and anesthesia protocols.
Qualifications:
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or equivalent certification required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in surgical assistance in a small animal veterinary setting.
- Oregon Radiation Safety certified.
- Proficiency in surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical assistance.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and train veterinary technicians.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to teamwork.
- Attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
