Job Summary
The Staff Nurse II–Shift Coordinator functions as a clinical expert, clinical consultant and resource to nursing unit staff to facilitate consistent quality patient care. Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values.

Job Requirements
- Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse
- Graduation from a nationally accredited college or university
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Additional certifications and specialty skills related to designated area of practice
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in designated area as a Registered Nurse
- One year of charge nurse/resource nurse experience
- BSN preferred but not required.
Essential Job Functions
- A resource for unit/area emergencies, disasters or other emergent situations by responding, facilitating communication and resources with management/administrative support; this may include responding to codes or other identified high acuity events.
- Functions as a clinical expert, clinical consultant and resource to nursing unit staff to facilitate consistent quality patient care.
- Coordinates assignment, adjusting unit staffing and scheduling based on established standards and census; facilitates optimal utilization of resources to meet patient needs by ensuring employees have the tools and information to function efficiently.
- Coordinates unit level quality management and performance improvement activities with direction; initiates processes to resolve clinical problems to include PI projects with direction.
- Functions as a charge nurse and shift coordinator with the ability to problem-solve unit and area level operations issues, collaborating with management as defined.
- Performs all functions of Staff Nurse II, providing professional nursing care to patients; functions independently as a practitioner, demonstrating superior problem-solving decision-making and critical thinking skills.
- Provides direct patient care as needed; is a technical expert and resource, or able to provide access to expert care as needed following organizational/departmental policy and procedure.
- Monitors and evaluates care and practice for self and others, collects data to ensure effectiveness of interventions.
