CLINICAL ACCESS NURSE LPN - GENDER HEALTH
Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Clinical Access Nurse, LPN serves as a main source of contact for clinical questions/refill requests/Prior Authorizations for patients of the clinic.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Serves as a main source of contact for clinical questions/refill requests/Prior Authorizations for patients of the clinic.
- Responsible for all phone calls/walk-ins related to the following issues, regardless of clinic:
- Prescription Refills (as well as walk in refill requests)
- Patient questions/symptoms issues or requests
- Pharmacy calls
- Physician calls
- Prior Authorization calls
- In accordance with paper light initiative, completes all correspondence/communication with practitioners (e.g., refill requests, patient questions, etc.) via e-mail. Only documents that must be signed by the physician should be placed in the folder for them to complete when in clinic. All other issues/requests should be sent to be addressed within 48 business hours of receipt.
- Responsible for checking the fax machine and completing any prior authorization requests or any other clinical requests that are faxed throughout the day.
- Responsible for completing FMLA and Disability Paperwork as related to clinic specialties to be returned to the appropriate clinic for physician signature. If a form requires information that only the doctor can provide (such as assessments the physician has to complete), the Clinical Access Nurse will complete as much of the form as possible and then place the paperwork in the appropriate clinic folder for the physician to complete.
- Ensures that any paperwork completed is submitted to OnBase to be scanned into the medical record.
- Documents in electronic medical record any actions/contacts completed.
- Assists in clinic if needed to triage patients, see nurse visit patients, etc.
- Performs other duties which may include, but are not limited to, assisting with check-out and charge entry, CHIRP entry, stocking supplies, and special projects.
Job Requirements
- Current Indiana license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Nursing skills in operating specialized equipment.
- Competence/accountability in preparing and administering medications and treatments according to policy, procedures, effective communication skills incorporating listening, effective interviewing techniques with patients and staff appropriate to age of the patient.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data/interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs.
- Ability to use age appropriate communication skills.
- Knowledge of fundamental nursing theories, current clinical concepts, diseases/symptoms, trauma, treatments/medications, triage, appropriate diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and interventions.
- Ability to function as a member of a health care team; delegate responsibilities/duties appropriately; follow oral/written instructions; record/interpret information accurately; assess and respond to patient status or needs.
- Must be able to perform CPR and other technical skills required lifting, turning.
- Must be able to position patients.
- Must be able to wash hands thoroughly and frequently.
- Must be able to help evacuate patients via stairwells.
- Critical thinking skills are essential.
