Accounting Manager
The Accounting Manager is a hands-on role working in a fast-paced environment to ensure our books are closed timely and accurately. As part of that, this role is responsible for overseeing and maintaining general accounting functions including AP, AR, journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed assets, and similar tasks.
A successful person in this role will be self-motivated to become the subject matter expert in running and maintaining our accounting and fixed asset systems, and will be keen to find
and implement efficiencies and process improvements both inside and outside of our systems. The Accounting Manager is a key person for reviewing, updating and maintaining our internal controls, and will be a focal for audits and ad hoc requests.
This is an in-office position in Wichita, Kansas, reporting to the Director of Accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Manages various accounting areas including AR, AP, accruals, prepaids, bank transactions, fixed assets and leases, revenue, and cost accounts, and records invoices and entries to support those.
- Oversees and participates in monthly and annual close and reporting processes, including analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts, in accordance with established closing schedules.
- Assists in preparing and analyzing financial statements and other reporting to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Seeks continuous improvement and efficiencies by reviewing and improving processes and procedures.
- Works directly with other accounting staff to support accounting operations and projects, and to foster an environment where team members are developed and supported.
- Engages with external auditors to ensure timely deliverables and reporting.
- Proactively identifies issues and finds solutions to problems or questions related to financial accounts, systems, or processes.
- Communicates internally and externally, including researching and writing policies and procedures, developing and maintaining internal controls, and communicating accounting positions to stakeholders.
- Performs ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA or Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience related to the role.
- Highly organized to track and balance multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in a deadline driven environment
- Advanced computer skills including Excel, ERP/accounting software and databases, and comfort mastering new software systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and experience working with cross functional groups at various levels within a corporate environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Restaurant industry or franchise experience
- Experience driving change and process improvements
- Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills and an innovative mindset
- Experience managing direct reports
- Cost accounting experience
Physical setting:
- Office
- Prolonged periods of sitting and viewing computer
Schedule:
- 8 hour days; additional hours may be required
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday; weekends as needed
