POSITION TITLE:
MANAGER: STATE & FEDERAL REPORTING
Under the direction of the Director, State & Federal Reporting, manages all activities related to the district’s internal process for ensuring data integrity, understanding, and verification of all real-time data transmitted to the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) for the purposes of state and federal reporting. Included in these activities is the expectation to maintain extensive knowledge of all data elements within the district’s Student Information System (SIS) tied to state and federal reporting, interrelationships of those data, methodologies tied to analyzing and correcting data discrepancies, and the ability to work with various district departments to ensure compliance.
An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Follows local, state and federal law and adheres to the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and Local School Board Policy.
- Stays current in state and federal reporting requirements.
- Develops and maintains effective and cohesive working relationships with district departments in order to align data elements in the district’s Student Information System (SIS) to state and federal reporting requirements.
- Manages and/or lead critical projects related to data quality and state and federal reporting processes.
- Works with district department(s) and district authorized charter sites responsible for the collection and reporting of staff data for the purposes of state and federal reporting requirements.
- Works with district departments and vendor(s) to develop new business rules related to state and federal requirements, including specifications for new reports and validation of data in the reports.
- Maintains all documentation of the district’s internal process for ensuring data integrity.
- Works directly with the district’s SIS vendor to setup, troubleshoot, validate, and improve the transmission of data via the EdFi Data Standard API and develop new functionality to accommodate changing policies from the District, State, and Federal levels.
- Works closely with the Director to define benchmarks and target dates related to state and federal reporting.
- Coordinates efforts to ensure data integrity at the school and department levels.
- Reviews data for compliance with state statutes, e.g., licensure, class loads, and compliance with business rules as dictated by NMPED.
- Works independently to meet customer needs and anticipates upcoming state reporting requirements and requests.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with extracting data and working with data from a large school district Student Information System.
- Knowledge and experience with implementing data standards such as EdFi.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with a diverse population in-person and on the telephone.
- Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines, to work on multiple projects, and to coordinate the work of others.
- Advanced word processing, database and spreadsheet software skills.
- Experience with the NM Public Education Department Accountability Reporting.
- Demonstrates ability to interpret, analyze, summarize and compile data.
- Strong project coordination and management skills.
- Strong research and analytical skills, critical thinking skills, and acute attention to detail.
- Ability to understand complex subject matter and easily communicate complex ideas in a simplistic manner.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience working in state and federal reporting OR
- Associate’s degree and six (6) years of experience in state and federal reporting OR
- High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of related experience in state and federal reporting.
