Principle Tasks
- Ensure organizational compliance with government cost accounting rules, guidelines, and principles, including timecards, indirect rate calculations, etc.
- Create and submit required grant related deliverables; ensure accuracy of submitted information, including with subrecipients.
- In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes and their financial aspects, including production, inventory control, compliance, and distribution, is crucial.
- Partner with operations management to identify opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting related to manufacturing and grant operations.
- Continually drive improvement of a standard costing system to provide management with better information for decision making.
- Develop and manage a comprehensive system of standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead, across the entire product suite and in government grants.
- Proactive analysis of variances and communication of issues and opportunities to operations management.
- Develop metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers and capital expenditure analysis.
- Conduct annual review of standard cost assumptions across all products, including detailed review of batch sizes, run times, and capacity, and directing adjustments where appropriate.
- Implement and enhance internal controls over manufacturing and distribution processes to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee execution in conjunction with manufacturing to conduct physical inventory audits for the quarter-end and year-end physical inventory.
- Lead month-end close process related to grants, manufacturing and distribution activities, ensuring that all activity is accurately reflected in the proper accounting period, in accordance with US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
- Manage the day to day financial and data analysis for cost and manufacturing, working with manufacturing and supply chain including monitoring the movement of inventory, validation of the cost of goods sold, and monthly plant and inventory to drive efficiencies in production and purchasing.
- Responsible for preparation and analysis of complex accounting issues including preparing and editing monthly and quarterly reports including preparation of manufacturing variances along with supporting analysis.
- Responsible for reconciliation for accuracy and completeness.
- Financial analytics including variance, work in process and expenses.
- Oversee monthly journal entries, including sales, COGS, other SG&A expenses, intercompany transactions and intercompany eliminations.
- Assist operations management with the prioritization of capital expenditure projects; deliver ROI calculations in support of proposed capex and track performance after completion of capital expenditures.
Edu/ Training/ exp required
- Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university. Masters or MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in government and manufacturing cost accounting.
- Proficient in use of accounting software and Microsoft Suite to perform accounting and financial activities.
- Advanced understanding of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in working with Cost of Goods Sold (COGs) within an ERP system.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of employees.
- Excellent organizational skills, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
- Understanding of inventory flow and operations processes.
- Experience in Government FAR and CAS accounting requirements.
- Must be a Citizen of the US.
Desired Industry Certification
CPA, CMA, APICS preferred.
Additional Information/Requirements
Must be willing to relocate to and work onsite in Albuquerque, NM.
