Position Description:
Responsible for maintaining food production at assigned school locations in compliance with food safety guidelines. Responsibilities may include performing inventory checks; determining food and product needs and ordering food and supplies; ensuring proper storage of food; maintaining records of food prepared and served; and supervising and assigning work direction and evaluation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains a good working knowledge of applicable Department and District policies and procedures, complying with such policies and procedures as established and communicated.
- Confers with the immediate supervisor or in-charge individual at the assigned site to ensure a correct and complete understanding of the work to be done, work priorities and any additional information that may be helpful in location coordination and directing others.
- Develops and maintains cooperative, productive workplace relationships in a manner which creates a pleasant environment for all those serving and those being served.
- Performs a variety of food preparation responsibilities and closely related duties as outlined in the position summary according to established procedures of the department or District.
- Performs not only the work of Food Service Assistant, but in addition secures substitute food service personnel and participates in annual performance evaluations with the Director of Wayzata Cafés.
- Performs additional duties related to the preparation, service, clean up and paperwork of planned meals for school and/or community special events.
- Attends designated and approved in-service or out-of-District training classes and workshops to keep current on the field and policies/procedures of the District.
- Develops and maintains a good working relationship with school administrators and personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications:
- Must have previous related experience working in an institutional kitchen.
- Must have experience with quantity food production and ordering.
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience in school nutrition or closely related experience.
- MN Department of Health Food Manager’s Certificate or must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of food service policy, capabilities of employees, and personnel policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform tasks of all employees currently working in the kitchen.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and produce under pressure.
- Ability to concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously with constant interruptions.
- Ability to provide leadership, direction, and guidance to co-workers.
- Ability to diffuse difficult situations quickly.
Physical Demands:
- Performing the essential duties for this position requires stamina and strength, including lifting within limits established by the District without mechanical assistance or help from another person.
All new food service employees must pass a pre-placement physical that is arranged through the district.
