POSITION AT A GLANCE
Our preferred candidate is proficient in both Spanish and English, welcoming and positive, tech savvy, has a tax preparation background (self-employment tax preparation is helpful but not required), and is highly organized and detail oriented. Must pass annual VITA tax preparer certification tests.
This is a part-time, permanent position, approximately 20-30 hours per week.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The bilingual tax coordinator assists the Special Tax Programs Manager and the Tax + Financial Services (TFS) department in the delivery of self-employment and general tax services. In addition, the coordinator supports the integration of financial services throughout the tax process.
The coordinator promotes and incorporates diversity, equity, and inclusion in planning, decision-making, and program implementation to advance Prepare + Prosper’s (P+P) racial equity and economic justice commitment to address systemic racism and foster trust in supporting customers in building financial well-being.
HOW THE POSITION BREAKS DOWN
Special Tax Program Support
· Coordinate with the Special Tax Programs Manager to facilitate operations for the self-employment clinics.
· Support site managers, volunteer tax preparers, and customer service volunteers with Spanish interpretation.
· Assist with Spanish speaking customers when a tax return is rejected or follow up is needed.
· Complete advanced tax preparation or quality review within the scope of the VITA program.
· Support financial services integration and outreach to customers in our tax services.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers and seasonal staff.
· Support tax clinic operations via instant messenger app by answering procedural questions and questions related to financial products and services provided at P+P for site managers upon request.
· Provide ongoing information and ideas for program evaluation and improvement.
· Sort and organize program paperwork to resolve issues.
· Document customer interactions, and track issues to identify trends or potential volunteer training.
· Helping with tax clinic questions in person and remotely via Slack.
· Follow and enforce data privacy procedures at all levels of service.
· Adhere to the rules and procedures established by P+P, the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and P+P’s financial institution partners. Training is provided.
· Serve as a Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA) for Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) program. Certification and training to be provided.
Training and knowledge development
· Review materials and forms designed for customers and volunteers for accuracy and clarity focusing on forms translated into Spanish.
· Translate tools and materials designed for the self-employment program into Spanish.
· Provide suggestions on tools and materials to develop to assist our Spanish-speaking self-employment customers meet and understand their tax filing obligations.
Other
· Attend and actively participate in required educational programs.
· Protect P+P's value by keeping information confidential.
· Update knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; maintaining networks; participating in professional organizations.
· Perform other duties as required by business needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· This position operates primarily in an office environment that is accessible; however, some work areas may not be fully accessible.
· This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to move around the office and between offsite meetings; grab, move, and manipulate objects, and operate a computer.
· Travel between the main office and remote Twin Cities locations may be necessary.
HOW WILL YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE A GOOD FIT?
Overall, P+P seeks candidates who are smart thinkers, can be self-directed yet collaborative, and care about making people’s lives better.
· Must be fluent and proficient in both Spanish and English.
· Willingness to develop strong tax preparation skills and create solutions in a fast-paced environment.
· Prior tax preparation experience. Working knowledge of P+P’s tax and financial services is helpful but not required. Working knowledge of tax software. Demonstrated efficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Tech savvy with working knowledge of office automation products. Good understanding of computer systems, mobile devices and other technology products.
· Excellent verbal and communication skills, with ability to respond in a patient and calm manner.
· Highly skilled at working effectively in a collaborative team environment.
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and rapid change.
· Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
· Demonstrated experience communicating and working effectively with others whose identity and background may differ from your own.
