The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist will perform all duties and tasks under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist may be assigned to the following shifts: 6:30 AM-7:00 PM; 9:00 AM-9:30 PM; 11:00 AM-11:30 PM, including weekends and holidays and to various ORs and specialties including OB as needed.
Under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, perform safe anesthesia care, consisting of the following: pre-operative assessment, writing of appropriate pre-op orders as specified by approved standard procedure, administration of all types of anesthetic and techniques, patient monitoring intra-operatively, provides for safe intra-op course and emergence and assists as necessary in post-operative care.
Responsibilities:
- California RN and Nurse Anesthetist License
- ACLS Certification
- AANA Certification
- Shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, call and holidays
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Graduation from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia
- Valid California Registered Nurse license
- Current certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)
- Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification by the American Heart Association
- Skill in performing pre-operative assessment of surgical patients
- Ability to explain the proposed anesthetic technique, alternatives, risks and problems
- Ability to safely insert venous and arterial monitoring lines and devices under medical direction of anesthesiologist
- Knowledge of pharmacology, dosage, side effects and contraindications of all drugs currently employed in anesthesia practice at UCI
- Ability to recognize post-operative complications of anesthesia
- Ability to assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency situations
