The Vice President of Finance, reporting to the CEO of Operations and Strategy, is responsible for leading a nonprofit's financial management and accounting operations. This position is part of the executive team, responsible for finance leadership and reporting, and serving as a financial advisor to the organization's leaders. The successful candidate will also oversee the facilities department. The direct reports include the Director of Internal Audit and Budget, the Accounting Manager, and the Director of Facilities.
Worksite Location: Minnetonka, MN – Onsite Opportunity; only candidates based in the Minneapolis area will be considered.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations.
- Partner with the accounting manager to ensure the close of the monthly financials.
- Direct and coordinate the preparation of the organization's financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Seek and lead AR, AP, budgeting, reporting, and analysis process improvements.
- Manage cash, cash flow analysis, and projections.
- Work with the Director of Internal Audit and Budget on the annual audit process and on preparing the organization's annual 990 filings.
- Manage the organization's cash flow and analysis and oversee billing and receivables.
- Work with the Director of Internal Audit and Budget to create the budgeting framework, process, and analysis.
- Approve electronic and check payments.
- Member of the organization's leadership team, contributing ideas and taking initiative on matters facing the entire organization.
- Prepare and lead the finance committee of the Board of Directors in conjunction with the Board treasurer.
- Prepare and review budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for the organization's management and board of directors.
- Be a financial partner to leaders, helping them with financial analysis to identify trends and explore options to improve financial performance.
- Manage banking, auditor, and other critical financial relationships.
- Partner with VP of Advancement to ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements and maintain accurate records of all grants and contracts.
- Provide financial analysis and support to the organization's management team and board of directors.
- Oversight of the facilities department, including regular meetings with the Director of Facilities to ensure facilities are maintained and meet the organization's needs.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related fields.
- 7+ years of leadership experience in applicable Accounting and Finance functions.
- Nonprofit experience - follow the Dept of Human Services guidelines.
- Certified Public Accountant or other related professional certification preferred.
- Broad knowledge of accounting principles.
- Experience with ERP/system implementation.
- Ability to be in office in Minnetonka, MN.
- Proven track record of exceeding objectives.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong strategic, financial, and analytical abilities.
