Summary
The Senior Accountant reports to the Greenbrier Leasing Company’s Accounting Manager and is a member of the finance team. This role is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards. Additionally, this role involves maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts and overseeing the month-end and year-end closing processes to guarantee accurate financial reporting. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.
Furthermore, this role will support our third-party customers by ensuring accurate invoicing, addressing any financial inquiries, and maintaining positive relationships to enhance customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Prepare journal entries and journal entries posting for multiple legal entities in accordance with US GAAP
- Perform monthly account reconciliations, variance, and trend analysis
- Handle complex lease modifications, such as early terminations, extensions, and variable lease payments, while ensuring accurate financial reporting
- Research and provide guidance on complex lease-related transactions, such as sale-leaseback arrangements, leasing pools, or subleasing
- Oversee accounting processes for various legal entities in compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., ASC 842, ASC 606, etc.)
- Gain understanding of contracts and agreements in order to apply proper accounting, manage lease documentation, including the tracking of lease obligation and payments
- Review billing instructions for accuracy and completeness, prepare monthly customer invoicing and collection reports for the Company
- Prepare distribution report, supporting invoice and cash collection schedule for third-party customers
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and addressing any audit findings or recommendations
- Prepare and report debt-related reports and covenant compliance to management and stakeholders
- Perform ad hoc reports and additional accounting duties, as needed, to support the team
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, must be able to understand complex transactions and issues with a demonstrated ability to think outside the box
- A proven ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, and the ability to interact confidently with leadership and others across the Company
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required with 3+ years of experience in the general ledger, financial reporting and financial analysis
- Knowledge and expertise in US GAAP
- CPA certification and / or Big 4 Public accounting experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with focus on Excel
- Lease accounting experience preferred
- Experience in D365 and/or OneStream is a plus
