This position will serve as a trusted and integral part of the organization responsible for leading a team within the credit & risk department, where areas of focus broadly address risks associated with new program client acquisition, new customer onboarding, existing client and customer risk exposure, application processes and decision systems, and analytics and risk reporting for a global B2B trade credit operation. The role helps drive sustainable business-centric growth by developing and managing a team focused on their area of responsibility, working with peers, partners, and executive leadership to define and execute the credit risk policies for the organization. As an experienced leader within the company, they routinely interact with customers and program clients and are expected to mentor more junior members of the team. They identify issues and drive solutions toward business optimization.
The position entails becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in multiple program networks, policies, procedures, and tools, maintaining multiple productive internal partnerships, and actively innovating for more productive operations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a staff of Underwriters creating a culture of support and development
- Hire, train, and retain top talent within the team
- Mentor team members to develop judgmental underwriting skills and professional acumen
- Direct and develop new strategies to enhance Credit & Risk policies and procedures
- Establish productivity expectations and metrics to optimize efficiency
- Review the Underwriters’ analysis and provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Approve credit risk assessments and credit limits based on the Underwriters’ analysis
- Direct and manage the completion of annual reviews to ensure continued creditworthiness for existing accounts
- Establish and maintain individual credit authority for the team based on their role and experience
- Ensure credit decisions are properly documented and stored in the appropriate repository
- Develop and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other guidance documentation
- Identify issues and independently solve problems within the scope of the role
- Provide subject matter expertise and support to Senior Leadership
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to solve business challenges by balancing business needs with minimizing risk
- Monitor industry conditions and business trends for potential risks and recommendations to Senior Management
- Correspond (verbal and written) with applicants, client representatives, and accountholders on credit decisions, review status, and inquiry resolution
- Proactively monitor account credit usage to ensure the credit line availability is appropriate
- Secure risk mitigants (e.g. Cash Deposits, UCC and other liens, bank letters of credit, guarantees, etc.) as appropriate
- Review applications and accounts for indications of fraud
Requirements:
- Advanced educational degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Formal financial analysis training and credit assessment courses in place of a degree
- Proficient in commercial business credit philosophy and policies, loan documentation, bankruptcy, and regulatory environment
- Strong team leadership and development skills
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of commercial lending oversight
- 3+ years of management experience
- Experience using credit approval authority of $500,000 - $1M Preferred
- Experience in using 3rd party credit reporting tools
- Experience in fraud detection related to online lending
- Experience in international lending
