JOB SUMMARY
Works with business unit lead and stakeholder relations team to provide customers with support within a defined geographic region and in alignment with the company's strategic plan. Responsibilities include: a) building relationships with stakeholders in the regional footprint; b) identifying, investigating and securing transmission development opportunities, including new transmission products and services, new transmission projects, strategic business alliances and asset acquisition opportunities; and c) engaging in efforts, working with other company resources, to influence rules and processes to support the development of new transmission products, services and projects by the company for customers, including state legislative and regulatory bodies and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops the business unit's customer solutions strategy with business unit lead as it relates to the company's overall strategic plan.
- Helps to develop and accomplish the business unit's capital investment plan.
- Leads coordinated efforts within a defined geographic region to provide business support to customers and stakeholders through the development of new electric transmission infrastructure and other customer solutions services and products.
- With support and collaboration with ITC finance and accounting, regulatory and legal, develops and negotiates development agreements, partnership agreements, acquisitions and other deal structures with cooperatives, municipals, IOUs and generation developers to acquire, build, own and operate transmission infrastructure.
- Evaluates new customer support services, products and partnership opportunities; develops detailed business plans for new services, products and partnerships.
- Leads negotiations for new transmission services, products and project opportunities including business structures, key parameters, terms and conditions and high-level due diligence.
- Manages stakeholder relations to ensure the business unit establishes and maintains effective relationships with external and internal stakeholders by proactively communicating and monitoring stakeholders' industries for changing needs.
- Represents the company as spokesperson and liaison at meetings with prospective partners and stakeholders and supports advocacy efforts; prepares presentation material dependent on audience and messages to be delivered.
- Establishes and maintains a highly customer focused company perspective and manages resources to meet and exceed customer satisfaction.
- Monitors, participates and actively represents the company on strategic committees and work groups advancing stakeholder and partnership relationships.
- Engages in efforts, in coordination with other company resources within the region, to ensure rules, processes and stakeholders support and enable new service and product development and construction of needed electric transmission infrastructure by the company, including rules, processes and stakeholders at the local, state and regional transmission organization levels.
- Assists in providing strategic counsel and leadership to the business unit president; when required, participates on behalf of the corporation and/or business unit president in external events and meetings.
- Communicates with cross-functional groups within the company to ensure customer supported objectives and the support roles of those groups are clearly understood.
- Assists in planning, organizing and facilitating research and analyses of industry trends and emerging issues in the assigned regions and their impact on customers, in cooperation with other functional areas.
- Assists in cultivating and supporting general business operations including managing partnership agreements, facilitating action items stemming from partner agreements & negotiations and coordinates responses to partners and stakeholders resulting from construction & operating activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, finance, accounting, business or other field related to the support of the provision of transmission service or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education;
- Master's degree preferred.
- Knowledge of basic engineering concepts and the electric transmission grid.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of electric utility, related energy industry, construction or project management experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience identifying and evaluating new business opportunities, product development and/or transaction/partnership management with demonstrated negotiation skills preferred.
- Detailed knowledge of the electric generation and transmission business, or other infrastructure business.
- Familiarity with transmission planning, permitting, design, rate design/pricing and relationship management within the energy industry and the regulatory process preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of cooperative, municipal, IOU, and generation developer business models with a preference for particular relationships with entities in the Southwest Power Pool region.
- Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
- Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Ability to travel on a regular basis.
