The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the IFO International Finance Division.
The Economic Analyst will be an integral member of a global corporate economics department, working in a team-based environment to support and promote the economics function at Abbott. The analyst will apply a working knowledge of economic and financial market principles to understand the external environment and support ongoing business needs. The analyst is recognized for knowledge of core economic and financial theory, and an understanding of how the theory applies in a business environment.
What You’ll Work On
The analyst will work on a variety of projects that support Abbott’s global businesses, focusing on industry and market analysis. Specific tasks may include:
- Applying statistical, financial, and economic analysis of public and private data, to provide timely insights of underlying trends and patterns for key markets
- Monitoring and tracking changes in global financial markets and how they relate to economic, healthcare, geopolitical and industry risks
- Constructing and maintaining various economic indexes, dashboards, and other data visualization & reporting tools
- Contributing research, econometric and time series analysis, and data visualization to department reports and communications
Required Qualifications
- A successful candidate possesses either a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or related field, and can demonstrate an understanding of economic theory and application.
- 1-2 years of prior work experience in an economic or financial analyst role is preferred.
- A strong interest in economic and financial issues along with the curiosity and desire to develop their personal skill set
- Strong written skills, including the ability to effectively communicate financial concepts and themes to a general business audience
- The ability to critically review and analyze external reports and data, and to summarize key information into clear and concise viewpoints
- Experience working with economic and financial data from multiple data sources
- Experience with econometric/statistics software such as EViews or R, and willingness to learn other statistical software as needed
- The ability to work on both independent and group projects while contributing to the overall growth of the team

The base pay for this position is $48,000.00 – $96,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
