GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Accounting Lead is responsible for managing the accounting department team members and accounting processes. The areas this position oversees may include the accounting for Loans, Deposits, Investments, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Prepaids, Leases, Accruals, Bank Reconciliations, Incentives, Wealth Management, Teller Cash activities, Bill Pay, Accounts Payable and other programs impacting members. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining and analyzing general ledger accounts, and various special projects.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Accounting Lead position involves leading a team of accounting team members and overseeing deliverables to ensure timely and accurate accounting. This position performs with minimal amount of direction and is authorized to take reasonable actions necessary to carry out the assigned responsibilities of the position, provided that such action is consistent with cost-effective practices and is consistent with the policy and procedures of Kinecta Federal Credit Union in general.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position reports to the Accounting Manager and does not have any direct reports. However, Accounting Lead is responsible for leading a team of accounting team members, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to maximize their potential. Foster a collaborative and high-performing environment within the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the team members in ensuring accurate and timely accounting and reporting of assigned accounting areas which may include Loans, Deposits, Investments, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Prepaids, Leases, Accruals, Bank Reconciliations, Incentives, Wealth Management, Teller Cash activities, Bill Pay, Accounts Payable and other programs impacting members.
- Review and approve journal entries, assigned general ledger reconciliations, and schedules completed for various reporting deliverables.
- Proactively ensure reconciling items in the general ledger accounts are cleared in a timely manner.
- Drive process improvement by analyzing existing department functions and systems to determine more efficient methods of job execution.
- Provide guidance, along with coaching and training to team members.
- Ensure proper cross-training and updated documentation of desk procedures.
- Assist in audits including internal, external, and regulatory.
- Support strategic and departmental initiatives.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other duties including special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills including research skills regarding current and prospective updates to accounting requirements to determine impact on accounting practices.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comfortable explaining complex concepts to stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to interact with staff, members, and others encountered in the course of work with tact and diplomacy.

Education, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 – 7 years related experience including experience in Accounting and leading teams.
- Experience in a financial institution preferred.
- High degree of PC literacy and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with account reconciliations and analysis, journal entry preparation, month-end close, process improvements.
- Must have strong time management skills with ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects and deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
- The job may require flexibility with regards to scheduling days, hours, and work location, depending on business needs.
- The job is typically sedentary but may require standing and walking up to 35% of the work time to transfer files, ask questions, and related activities.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES, MENTAL DEMANDS, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to exercise sound judgment, effectively plan and be well organized, have excellent oral and written communications skills, work well under changing timelines, take the initiative and be flexible and cooperative. Accuracy, timeliness and maintaining confidentiality related to member, employee information and company records is required.
While performing the job duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk or hear in person and by telephone; use hands to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; lift minimum 10 lbs.
The employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus to read and operate office equipment, as necessary. The employee works under typical office conditions and noise levels.
