Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students.
How you will make an impact
The incumbent of this position is responsible for performing architectural plan reviews and field surveys related to the design, construction, and fire safety of school facilities.
- Reviews the plans and specifications submitted to the Department of Education for compliance with FSDB’s Construction Standards, Florida statutes, and state and federal codes and standards.
- Conducts construction surveys of the School’s facilities, both during and upon completion of construction.
- Functions as the facility coordinator for assigned projects.
- Responsible for keeping Assistant Director routinely informed concerning the timely review of all projects in the assigned facility.
- Prepares reports of findings/deficiencies for the provider.
- Acts as Contract Manager for contracts assigned to the position.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture, construction, and project management.
- Ability to plan, develop, and implement construction programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Knowledge of computerized systems for design and construction programs.
- Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree from a college or university with a major in civil, construction, mechanical or architectural engineering or architecture and four years of experience in the field of building construction.
- A master's degree with three years of experience in the field of building construction.
- Experience in the field of building construction can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Sign Language Requirements
Applicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn American Sign Language.
Hiring Salary Range
12-month position, $49,890.36 - $57,390.36 annually.
Hours
Monday – Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm
