Job Summary and Qualifications
The Lactation Consultant/Educator serves as a clinical expert for lactation and breastfeeding. In this capacity, you will be responsible for upgrading lactation knowledge and skills for the staff, patients, and the community through formal and individual education programs. We are looking for a highly skilled individual who feels promoting the overall wellbeing of patients is as meaningful as we do. In this role:
- You will provide in-depth, individual assistance for mothers and families experiencing routine or complex circumstances associated with lactation and breastfeeding.
- You will perform evaluations related to lactation and implement an individualized feeding plan in consultation with the mother.
- You will encourage the support of breastfeeding through patient consultation, staff education, and implementation of current, evidence-based breastfeeding policies and procedures.
- You will assist in the maintenance of current breastfeeding reference materials as a resource for the healthcare team.
- You will assist in data collection and subsequent program development and implementation that improves outcomes for breastfeeding women and infants.
- You will participate in the development of breastfeeding guidelines, protocols, and patient education materials to ensure they are informed upon discharge.
- You will conduct educational programs for the outpatient population as needed, including outpatient consultations on a one-to-one basis.
Qualifications
- Current professional licensure (i.e. RD, RN) in the state of Utah or equivalent education in a related field (i.e. certified lactation educator).
- Baccalaureate degree, current certification as lactation educator or IBCLC certification and previous teaching experience preferred.
- One year of experience in lactation consulting/education required.
- American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification.
