Description
The Vice President – Nursing Services is a senior executive responsible for the administration, support, and program development of patient care areas (Medical/Renal, Medical/Oncology, Surgical, Critical Care, Progressive Care, Pediatrics, Family Birth/Newborn Nursery, Transitional Care, Emergency, Ambulatory Care and Rehab Unit, Lenoir Wound & Infusion Center, Hemodialysis) ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Reporting to the CEO, and as a member of the Senior Leadership team, the VP of Nursing Services will collaborate with other leaders to develop and implement policies, procedures and strategies that enhance nursing practice and improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the nursing staff.
- Develop and implement nursing policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Supervise and mentor nursing managers and staff.
Quality and Patient Care:
- Ensure high standards of patient care and safety.
- Monitor and evaluate patient care practices and outcomes.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives.
Staff Development:
- Oversee recruitment, training, and retention of nursing staff.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Address staffing needs and manage workforce planning.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other healthcare executives and departments.
- Facilitate effective communication within the nursing team and across the organization.
- Represent the nursing department in executive meetings and committees.
Compliance and Regulation:
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
- Prepare for and participate in accreditation and regulatory reviews.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices and healthcare trends.
Requirements:
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Five to eight years progressive experience in hospital management/administration.
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
- Must have current Registered Nurse license in the state of North Carolina.

- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
- Financial acumen required to evaluate statistical data in planning departmental operations and budgets.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Possible exposure to electrical hazards, chemical hazards through use of printers, photocopiers, etc.
- May require long hours and availability for emergencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is of medium physical demand.
- Requires sitting, standing and walking during majority of work day.
- Adequate hearing and visual acuity are required when supervising and conferring with others.
