Our client is seeking a Controller for their office in Worcester, MA to oversee the financial activities of the organization.
Position Summary: The Controller will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the financial activities of the organization with a specific emphasis on manufacturing processes, inventory valuation and GAAP. The primary responsibilities include leading a team of accounting professionals, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, implementing, and maintaining effective accounting processes and controls, and leveraging manufacturing expertise to support informed decision-making on product costing, profitability analysis, and inventory valuation.
Essential Functions And Duties:
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Utilize current ERP system (SAP) for efficient financial data management and reporting to leverage the capabilities for the required financial processes, including but not limited to product costing, inventory management, and financial reporting, etc.
- Implement and manage cost accounting systems specifically tailored to manufacturing processes.
- Conduct regular cost reviews and analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and enhance the organization's competitiveness in the market.
- Oversee the accurate valuation of inventory, considering various costing methods (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average) and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
- Collaborate with the operations and supply chain teams to optimize inventory levels and minimize carrying costs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial reporting, particularly within the manufacturing domain.
- Streamline and optimize cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial reporting procedures, embracing technological solutions where applicable.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and monitor annual budgets and forecasts, with a specific focus on manufacturing cost components and inventory projections.
- Analyze budget variances related to manufacturing costs and inventory and provide insights to support informed decision-making.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal and external auditors during financial audits, particularly regarding manufacturing cost-related matters, taxation, SAP utilization, and inventory valuation.
- Address audit findings related to manufacturing, taxation, SAP, and inventory valuation, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed to achieve deliverables, such as operations, supply chain, production and retail, to gather information and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Provide insightful financial analysis, with a specific focus on manufacturing cost-related, tax-related, and inventory-related metrics, to support strategic decision-making by the management team.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies by staying abreast of changes in accounting regulations, cost accounting methodologies, taxation laws, CCC regulations, inventory valuation methods etc., ensuring the organization's compliance.
Supervisory:
- Accomplishes department objectives by supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
- Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and developing personal growth opportunities in conjunction with HR.
- Accomplishes staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees in conjunction with HR.
- Plans, monitors, and appraises staff job results in conjunction with HR.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or relevant certification preferred.
- Proven experience (5 years) in accounting, with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial role with a focus on manufacturing and inventory valuation.
- Cost Accounting Experience is a must.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
- Experience in cost accounting, tax management, SAP utilization, and inventory valuation within a manufacturing context.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in using accounting software, MS Excel, and SAP.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to multitask and manage time and be able to adapt to changing work
- Provide adequate levels of support to internal stakeholders
- Must be detail oriented, thorough, and be able to take direction
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Must be reliable and dependable with a good work ethic
Compensation: $125,000- $135,000 on a base, with Health benefits and 401K.
