The Division of Medical Genetics at Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) has an active and well-integrated clinical genetics service which currently includes reproductive genetics and cancer genetics. The Division includes clinical genetics services and the maternal serum screening program which serves the health system and surrounding area. We expect growth in cancer genetics with the expansion of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute. With the implementation and expansion of the Henry Ford Precision Medicine Program, the Genetics Division will be part of systemwide initiatives to grow and emphasize the importance of genetics throughout clinical care. The ideal candidate will be excited to work on building and growing clinical genetic services for the health system.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the primary physician and/or the Division Head, elicits patient history, provides counseling and follow-up care for the following patient groups: prenatal, pediatric, adult cancer, general genetics, adult and pediatric neurogenetics. Prepares cases and presents at interdisciplinary conferences. Formulates differential diagnosis, coordinates related testing, and documents all patient visits. Counsels patients on all aspects of the diagnosis. Consults on inpatient cases and acts as liaison with a variety of internal and external sources. Responsible for training and supervision of students and residents, education of professional and lay groups, and participation in departmental research. Credentialed to directly supervise genetic counseling students.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires minimum of a Master of Science degree in genetic counseling from an accredited university graduate program.
- Certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counselors is required.
- Previous experience in Genetics, with counseling, diagnostic, and interpretation experience in the areas of prenatal diagnosis and screening, amniocentesis, teratogen and dysmorphology and/or cancer genetics.
- Requires sound knowledge of the State's genetics network as well as other agencies that relate to the care of patients with genetic diseases.
