Overview
The Sr. Manager, Solutions (S3) is responsible for the oversight, management, and growth of Reworld’s S3 product line in the designated region(s). The Sr. Manager, Solutions (S3) will work closely with Reworld’s national sales directors and regional sales reps to qualify requests for proposals, analyze and assess the waste data being provided by the customer, and submit comprehensive bids. During this process, the Sr. Manager, Solutions will lead multiple functions including interaction with the customer (on S3 opportunities), interaction with internal Reworld facilities (MPFs, WTE Facilities, etc.), interaction with 3rd party subcontractors, collaboration with internal Reworld departments like pricing, legal, customer service, billing, etc., and more.
The ideal candidate will have leadership experience, strategic and executional experience, budget management and forecasting experience, and above all else – wide-ranging waste and byproduct management experience. This person should be extremely organized, able to manage multiple projects/opportunities at once, and be disciplined about how they spend their time. He or she should also be comfortable presenting to customers and to internal company leadership.
Our Sustainable Site Solutions (S3) contracts can include the direct management of on-site labor, equipment, transportation, disposal and recycling for all types of waste being generated at a customer’s manufacturing plant or distribution center. The Sr. Manager, Solutions role will own the entire S3 sales pipeline, bid submission process, negotiation of any contract terms, and the implementation of all new programs in the region(s). This person will be responsible for interviewing and hiring of any staff needed to perform the duties of the contract(s), KPI development and tracking for the customer, and working with the Reworld team to optimize the operation. Accountable for the profitability and efficiency of multiple on-site S3 operations, the Sr. Manager, Solutions will ensure safe work sites, regulatory compliance, and performance against the Scope of Work(s).
Travel – Travel for this role is expected to be heavy, and could be upwards of 50% or more. Plane rides, multi-hour drives, and overnight hotel stays will be common.
Location: This role is open to work remotely for candidates that sit near a major airport in the Midwest territory: IN, IL, MN, MI, OH, MN, IA.
What you will do:
- Assist Reworld Sales Directors, Chief Commercial Officers, and other stakeholders in pursuing growth opportunities by providing insight and assistance as needed to generate proposals for future opportunities.
- Act as “right hand” person to the salesperson(s) leading total waste management pursuits with current and prospective Reworld customers.
- Perform in-person site walks, customer waste data analysis, supply chain mapping, and more to qualify new opportunities with our sellers.
- Lead the solicitation of pricing from internal Reworld assets, external 3rd party subcontractors, transporters, equipment providers, and more – for the purposes of submitting a comprehensive bid to our customers.
- Lead the negotiation around what is covered (and what is not covered) in each program’s unique scope of work, pricing framework, etc.
- Coordinate and communicate all phases of operations including project set up, project milestones, project obstacles, and project completeness including assisting in invoicing.
- Coordinate the quote solicitation and ordering of any equipment (balers, forklifts, shredders, chippers, etc.), PPE for new employees, tools for new employees, etc.
- Lead the process of getting all customer waste streams profiled (including review of Safety Data Sheets from customers).
- Lead the personnel setup of new programs including the creation of job descriptions, interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, coordinating training and required certifications (especially any external items such as RCRA, Hazwoper, etc.).
- Supervise regional S3 Project Manager(s) over existing programs, ensuring that they are meeting profitability expectations and that the programs are operationally efficient.
- Perform periodic evaluations of employees, including rewarding and disciplining. Address complaints and manage conflict resolution.
- Management of relationships (and hiring/dismissing) with temp labor agencies for the purpose of filling short-term personnel needs.
- Own all client-facing responsibilities along with the salesperson during the close of sale, contract negotiation, and program implementation period.
- Scope, summarize, and quote field service work opportunities on the customer’s site.
- Assist customer(s) with any site audit responsibilities related to waste management.
- Own initial outreach and high-level relationship management with 3rd party subcontractors associated with our customer program(s).
- Build knowledge base and continuous improvement around all waste stream and byproduct types associated with our diverse customer base, as well as the waste processing and treatment options that are applicable to those streams.
- Work closely with customer representatives, and representatives from various Reworld departments (legal, customer care, billing, accounts payable, IT, human resources, etc.) to ensure the complete functionality of the S3 program.
- Develop, maintain, and promote workplace quality, performance, appearance, and effectiveness.
- Set Safety as a number one priority for the team and promote Reworld’s health and environmental standards and expectations while also meeting the customer’s requirements.
- Communicating effectively by providing information to customers, supervisors, peers, and subordinates by telephone, written form, e-mail, or in person.
- Ensuring all preventative maintenance obligations are consistently met and ensure that the S3 services team is always organized and ready.
- Analyze budget requests, sales, and activity reports, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) data to measure productivity and goal achievement while identifying areas in which cost reductions and program improvements can be made.
- Directly supervise multiple S3 contracts in the region.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Along with any On-Site Project Manager(s), be responsible for initial investigation for accidents, incidents, and near misses. Follow up with Reworld Management, Sr. Director of SHE, and Human Resources as needed.
What you will need:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Extensive leadership and team-building skills.
- Strong waste experience including multiple treatment options (haz, non-haz disposal, recycling, organics management, etc.). Hazardous background considered a plus, and RCRA and DOT-trained individuals may be prioritized. Experience operating with a Lean Mindset will also be considered a plus.
- Familiarity with equipment such as FELs, Compactors/Receivers, Open Tops, Forklifts, Balers, etc. – as well as maintenance.
- Familiarity with waste logistics and different methods of transportation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to analyze information and suggest improvements.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and time management skills.
- Greater than 5 years hands-on experience and management background in Total Resource Management, On-Site Services, and/or industrial service work.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint and Excel.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Must be willing to go visit Industrial, Manufacturing, Warehouse and Disposal Facility Settings – Wear proper PPE, walk flights of stairs, in varying levels of noise, heights, dirt, and temperature fluctuation.
