DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Retirement Administration Service Center (RASC) counsels members of the University as they transition into retirement and provides long-term pension and retirement health benefits support.
POSITION SUMMARY
This is a TEMPORARY position within our Temporary Office of the President Staffing (TOPS) program. As a Business Analyst in RASC, you will provide decision support to our leadership team as we execute the Strategic Vision. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in all aspects of data analytics, including querying and visualization. This leader will perform and present easy-to-understand, insightful operational data analysis along with actionable, data-driven recommendations to stakeholders across the University of California Office of the President and various external stakeholder groups.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data analysis (60%)
- Be an "always-on storyteller" - interpreting the data, identifying the "so what" and "why" behind the headlines, influencing through compelling data-driven presentations, and turning insights into actionable recommendations for RASC strategy.
- Translate complex and messy ideas and business questions into actionable hypotheses to test through collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, utilizing robust analytics frameworks and strong project management skills to drive work with our talented team.
- Serve as a thought leader and data expert to peers, cross-functional and external partners.
- Data querying and report building (20%)
- Develop and maintain databases by acquiring data from primary and secondary sources, and build scripts that will make our data evaluation process more flexible or scalable across datasets.
- Work closely with functional leaders to understand and maintain focus on their reporting needs, including critical metrics and KPI reporting.
- Data visualization (20%)
- Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis, with reporting components from multiple data sources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3 years experience in a data analysis role.
- Strong SQL, Excel, and data visualization skills (e.g., Tableau), with aptitude for learning other analytics tools.
- Experience collecting, synthesizing, analyzing, and visualizing sources of data used to derive insights and form recommendations to improve operational efficiency.
- Excellent business acumen, investigative, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present analysis clearly and compellingly.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Practical experience in statistical analysis through the use of statistical packages, including Excel, SPSS, and SAS.
- Experience with retirement and pension plan systems.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/training.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The person hired will be required to reside within California and will be required to report to work onsite at UC's Office of the President (UCOP) located in Oakland, CA.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the salary grade for a position. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position.
