Position Summary (This position will consist of 32 hours per week.)
The Oncology - Infusion Therapy Registered Nurse exercises independent judgment when providing comprehensive nursing care including the administration of chemotherapy to oncology outpatients and infusion/transfusion therapy for outpatients. The RN is accountable and responsible for clinical decision making and coordination of a patient's care during an assigned shift or throughout the length of stay on a unit. The RN exercises independent judgment to assess patient needs, to develop the plan of nursing actions in collaboration with the health care team, to implement the plan and to evaluate the effects and outcome of the care provided. The RN will provide direct nursing care to patients in accordance with the scope of practice as defined by the Maine State Board of Nursing. As part of the care team, the RN will coordinate, assign and oversee patient care duties delegated to registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and certified nurse aides (CNAs). The RN utilizes excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in collaborating with Medical and Nursing Staff, Support and Ancillary Services, Administration, Community Providers, patients, families and care givers.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN Preferred.
- License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Maine; Current BLS certification; Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certificate required within 3 months of hire & must maintain; Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN) Preferred, or must obtain and maintain within 3 years of hire.
- Experience: 3 years in acute clinical setting, with 1 year Oncology experience preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
- May be needed to work at both WCGH and PBMC Cancer Care departments.
