Position Overview
Under the supervision of the LOBO (Libraries, Outreach, and Business Operations) Associate Director, this person will evaluate and address data quality concerns identified within the LOBO division. This person will work to understand data workflows, prepare required quality assurance (QA) procedures, and will collaborate with appropriate parties to implement adequate solutions to ensure quality control (QC) and quality assurance for Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) data and stakeholders. They will certify proposed solutions by performing appropriate testing or collaborating with appropriate personnel to achieve those solutions.
Responsibilities:
- 80% - Work with library staff, data manager, developers, other state agencies, and stakeholders to improve Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) data, databases, as well as presentation and access on the KGS website. Research and resolve errors with records and data. Analyze and evaluate data problems and perform appropriate testing for quality assurance and control. Recommend data policies and procedures.
- 10% - Under the direction of the DRL (Data Resources Library) Manager, assist KGS patrons, including KGS staff, in providing professional and technical support related to geology and oil, gas, and water well-related questions. Direct other inquiries to the appropriate KGS staff, state agencies, or other organizations. Act as the residential on-site geologist for public inquiries either via call-in or walk-in.
- 5% - Serve on internal and external committees as needed. Assist KGS staff with data-related research projects or grants. Organize and sort documents, enter and quality check data, scan documents, and post to the KGS public website.
- 5% - Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates Degree and three years relevant experience or Bachelors Degree in geosciences or closely related field.
- Experience working with Oracle databases and coding languages (SQL, Python, etc.), as evidenced by application materials.
- Two years of experience with database maintenance.
- Two years of experience performing quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters in geosciences or Information Management.
- Two years of experience working in a library or a library science degree.
- Experience with the oil and gas industry and/or the water well industry, including policies, data, and documents, as evidenced by application material.
- Experience working with maps, geographic information systems, coordinate systems, the public land survey system, and aerial images, as evidenced by application material.
