nCino is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Principal Corporate Revenue Accountant to serve as the subject matter expert on the revenue team. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Revenue Accounting, this role is crucial in ensuring accurate revenue recognition, compliance with ASC 606 guidelines, SOX requirements, and GAAP standards. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in revenue accounting and a proactive approach to optimizing our revenue processes.
Essential Functions
Revenue Recognition Expertise:
- Serve as the go-to expert on ASC 606 guidelines and other relevant revenue recognition standards specifically related to SaaS revenue, consumption-based revenue, and multi-element contractual arrangements
- Ensure accurate and timely application of revenue recognition policies for complex transactions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze contracts and provide guidance on revenue treatment
- Continuously assess and optimize revenue accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy
- Streamline and automate revenue-related workflows to improve overall financial operations
- Lead cross-functional projects to implement best practices in revenue accounting
SOX Compliance
- Lead and maintain SOX compliance related to revenue recognition processes
- Implement and enhance internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial reporting
- Support the internal and external audit team’s regular reviews and audits, providing documentation and commentary as needed
GAAP Optimization
- Stay current with updates to GAAP standards related to revenue recognition
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to align with the latest GAAP requirements
- Provide guidance on the impact of accounting standard changes on revenue recognition
Financial Analysis And Reporting
- Prepare and analyze revenue-related footnotes for public filings
- Provide insights into key performance indicators and trends impacting revenue
- Support external audit activities related to revenue recognition
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with sales, legal, and other teams to review and structure revenue contracts
- Work closely with the billing and collections teams to ensure accurate and timely invoicing
- Provide training and guidance to team members and stakeholders on revenue-related matters
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and 8+ years of progressive experience in corporate accounting, with a focus on SaaS revenues or a combination of education and experience
- Deep knowledge of ASC 606 guidelines and other relevant revenue recognition standards
- Strong understanding of SOX compliance and experience in implementing and maintaining internal controls
- Proficiency in GAAP and its application to revenue recognition
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong business acumen and communication skills; ability to deliver verbal and written technical knowledge to varied audiences
Preferred:
- CPA certification (strongly preferred)
- Experience with SaaS revenue recognition software
- Experience in a publicly traded company
- Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance
