We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant who will take a lead role in the analysis and preparation of all aspects of inventory and manufacturing costing information to support a wide range of business operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in manufacturing processes, in spending time on the plant floor observing activities to gain information and has experience in providing detailed and accurate product costing information and variance analysis. The Cost Accountant will be based in our Auburn, MA location.
What You Will Do:
- Support the leadership team to interpret financial data to track against financial objectives.
- Partner with the broader Finance and business organization to build robust financial reporting tools for monthly reporting.
- Help build out Financial budgeting and forecast models for the organization.
- Execute and analyze product costing, specifically cost of goods sold (COGS) and other manufacturing operating inputs.
- Month-end closing duties, reconciliations, and analysis relating to inventory as well as the income statement to the gross margin level, including standard cost of sales, variances, scrap, reserves, and inventory cycle count adjustments.
- Prepare -analysis on Customer Sales and product margins.
- Work with the manufacturing team to develop relevant metrics to measure manufacturing performance.
- Provide support and guidance to relevant departments to assist them in understanding and Improving costs and margins. Visibility on the plant floor is necessary to achieve this goal.
- Support sourcing decision by creating financial analysis for total Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and other manufacturing inputs.
- Assist with new product business case preparation.
- Prepare and analyze monthly costing reports by department and category.
- Approve and assist with costing on new and existing products.
- Review, update, and maintain activity rates.
- Review company allocations.
- Analyze material, labor, and other expenses and provide proactive recommendations based on this analysis.
- Assist Product Management with profitability analysis by product, Mfg. Location & Customer.
- Compare monthly actual results to budget and projections.
- Audit and analyze inventory to understand and support the remedy of inventory valuation deviations.
- Develop compelling dashboards and data visualizations to improve understanding of key business metrics.
What Have You Done:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or similar.
- 3+ years of experience in a cost accounting role with exposure to general accounting functions.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in financial management and operations function in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, analytical systems and ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong aptitude for learning and understanding systems (reporting, process, software) and methods.
- Demonstrates a thorough level of knowledge in cost accounting methods, including activity-based costing, unit costing, standard costing methods with variances, and residual analysis.
- Broad range of capabilities, including being an executor who can communicate problems and their solutions.
- Ability to take high-level strategic perspectives while not being afraid to delve into the details of specific analyses.
- Ability to interact with and influence people at all levels of an organization.
- High degree of financial and analytical process leadership and business acumen.
- Excellent financial modeling and analytical skills for budgeting & forecasting, combined with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to present complex information in a usable format to a diverse audience.
- Experience establishing, implementing, and adhering to cost and process improvement initiatives within a high-growth environment.
