Role Description:
In the role of Financial Reporting Accountant, you will be part of our Financial Reporting team that provides crucial financial analysis to our executive leadership team and fulfills Safety National’s obligations to provide various financial statements. You will work closely with others in the Accounting and Finance department to compare planned results vs. actual results and draft thoughtful summaries to analyze your findings and share with leadership. Your contributions of helping to carefully scrutinize our financial records and provide an accurate accounting of Safety National’s books allow our leaders to make sound decisions for our organization.
In this role, you will also support the Reinsurance Accounting team that maintains all accounting functions in the reinsurance subsystems. You will be responsible for recording premium and claim activity to the general ledger, as well as posting cash transactions related to reinsurance activities.
Your day-to-day responsibilities as a Financial Reporting Accountant will include booking various journal entries and reconciling accounts on a monthly basis. You may also be assigned to assist with preparing statements and filings or to assist with various administrative functions of the department as needed.
The ideal candidate is someone with strong critical thinking skills, a keen attention to detail, and an ability to learn new systems. Some of the essential skills required of you in this role are dependability, accountability, and strong collaboration and organizational skills. It will also be important to be able to work well collaboratively and at times independently, all while adhering to established procedures. Finally, excellent professional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to summarize complex concepts and topics for a wide variety of audiences is essential. Intermediate skills with the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel and Outlook is required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field is strongly preferred
Required Qualifications:
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Word and Outlook
- Prior professional work experience in an accounting role (may be from an internship)
- Knowledge of financial statements
- Demonstrated excellent professional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking skills
- Proven ability to learn new software systems
- Keen attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in public accounting or “Big Four” firm
- 1 or more years of experience in an accounting role
- Prior experience in the insurance industry
Safety National is committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-based compensation. The target salary range for this position is $63,000 to $98,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
