POSITION DETAILS
Job Title: Senior Finance & Accounting Specialist
Salary: $60K – 65K
- Salary is based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
Work Schedule: 40-hour work week
- LPHI offers traditional (M-F, 8 am-5 pm), flexible (for example, M-F 10 am-7pm), and compressed work schedules (for example, M-Th 8 am-7 pm). Schedule details finalized between employee and manager.
- Minimum two days per week in office are required for this role.
Location: This is a Louisiana-based, hybrid position with occasional (<10%) travel required.
- LPHI maintains an office in New Orleans if the employee prefers to be 100% in-office.
- Employee must reside in Louisiana during the time of employment.

Primary Relationships: The Senior Finance & Accounting Specialist will primarily work with the CFO, Assistant Controller, Director of Finance, and internal and external project partners.
ABOUT THE POSITION
As a team member at Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI), the Senior Finance & Accounting Specialist will report to the CFO and work alongside the Assistant Controller and Associate Director of Finance. This position is critical to the finance team as the Senior Finance & Accounting Specialist helps deliver great decision-making data through financial recordkeeping objectives, communicates financial results through various reporting mediums, and participates in budgeting activities that help forecast future performance of departments. The Senior Finance & Accounting Specialist will lead all activities related to AP and AR, while supporting the Assistant Controller with month-end and audit objectives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Maintain vendor information and create new vendor records as needed within financial system.
- Input administrative invoices for reimbursement processing and review of invoice documentation to ensure grant compliance for allowable costs within contract agreements.
- Manage the entire purchase requisition and payment process in Sage Intacct, including scanning and/or uploading of all documentation to Sage and reconciling errors.
- Process check-runs in Sage and obtain all necessary approvals for check batch, save pdf copies of check batch, distribute ACH and/or check payments.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries on status of check payments.
Accounts Receivables
- Assist with preparation of revenue invoices for assigned program funds including but not limited to gathering & preparing all backup documentation.
- Invoices are processed monthly, quarterly, or annually based on program rules.
- Submit approved and completed invoice packets to program partners.
- Review semi-monthly aged AR to confirm payments received and follow up on outstanding collections as needed with payors and programs team.
General Accounting and Audits
- Assist staff with allowable credit card purchases and monthly credit card reconciliations.
- Complete bank deposits.
- Process assigned journal entries in Sage Intacct system.
- Manage fixed asset roster and record monthly depreciation entries.
- Support Assistant Controller with month-end close procedures.
- Provide support to Assistant Controller and CFO for annual program and organizational audits.
Other Responsibilities
- Support legal team with contract management practices when needed.
- Retrieve and process office mail.
- Serve as a member of the LPHI Administrative Team, collaborate with team members to support finance and operations procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ABOUT YOU
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university plus three to five years of related experience required.
- Three to five years of experience in general ledger accounting, processing AR/AP deliverables, compiling financial reports, and using multiple IT systems daily.
- Ability to process transactions and complete account reconciliations.
- Experience in analyzing financial data and preparing statements or projections.
- Highly organized and self-motivated with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office software applications (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

- Experience in non-profit and/or grant accounting a plus.
- Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software preferred.

Working Conditions:
- This position is based in an office or home office setting.
- Occasional travel may be required for training or meetings.
