We have a client searching for a skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join their dynamic team at a leading insurance company based in Long Island, NY. This position is responsible for managing the accounting operations, financial reporting, and statutory accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with at least 7 years of experience, including 2 years in statutory accounting within the insurance industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily accounting activities, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and statutory regulations.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and compliance with state insurance department requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, and analyze variances between actual results and budgeted figures.
- Act as the primary contact for internal and external auditors, preparing audit schedules, providing requested documentation, and addressing audit findings.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants, providing guidance on technical accounting issues and promoting a collaborative team environment.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance operational efficiency, implementing best practices and technological solutions.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, insurance regulations, and industry practices, ensuring company compliance with all applicable laws.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years of statutory accounting experience in the insurance industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, statutory accounting principles (SAP), and insurance industry-specific regulations.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Familiarity with financial management software and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience managing a team.
