SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant who will take a lead role in the analysis and preparation of all aspects of inventory and manufacturing costing information in a dynamic, growth-oriented, privately held group of companies. The cost accountant’s combination of strong technical and communication skills will facilitate confident interactions and exchange of information with staff in all areas of the company. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in manufacturing processes, in spending time on the plant floor observing activities to gain information, and has experience in providing detailed and accurate product costing information and variance analysis. The Cost Accountant will report to the Controller and will be involved in the development of financial information to help improve operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Month-end closing duties, reconciliations, and analysis relating to inventory as well as the income statement to the gross margin level, including standard cost of sales, variances, scrap, reserves and inventory cycle count adjustments.
- Maintain and monitor intercompany and subcontractor inventory transactions.
- Maintain routings and structures within the ERP system and inventory part master and maintain the inventory standard cost system.
- Interact with all relevant departments to ensure accurate and timely updates related to product changes and perform cost roll-ups to reflect changes in standard costs.
- Prepare inventory part costings for new products or for sales quotations.
- Work with the manufacturing team to develop relevant metrics to measure manufacturing performance.
- Provide support and guidance to relevant departments to assist them in understanding and improving costs and margins.
- Assist with the compilation and analysis of the annual budget.
- Participation in the annual external audit and communication with the auditors.
- Active involvement with other finance staff to ensure a cohesive team that provides timely and relevant, comprehensive financial information to management to support decision making and facilitate profitable business growth.
- Maintain and track progress of key performance indicators (KPI) to established targets.
- Ability to travel to other plant locations as needed.
- Backup responsibilities within the finance department for vacation/other absence coverage.
- Other duties may be assigned.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Accounting designation or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 5 years experience in a cost accounting role with exposure to general accounting functions.
- Hands-on experience working on the plant floor with operators/engineers to validate costing assumptions.
- Advanced knowledge of excel, analytical systems and ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong aptitude for learning and understanding systems (reporting, process, software) and methods.
- Confident in the conversion of weights and measures between imperial and metric systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience in the implementation of finance-based projects and initiatives.
