Our Corporate Controllers team is currently seeking a Lead Accountant SEC in our Worcester, MA location. This is a full-time, exempt role. Position is eligible for Hybrid/Flex work arrangement.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Operates with considerable independence to lead accounting, reporting and controls processes. Work closely with business partners to effectively plan and execute accounting support for business expansion initiatives and meet internal/external audit and regulatory requirements. Partner and collaborate with other finance/accounting teams and lead or assist in various accounting/financial reporting projects and develop accounting technical knowledge applicable to the current business environment. May mentor and lead more junior team members.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Prepare complex journal entries, reconciliations and supporting workpapers and/or perform detail review of moderate to highly complex journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Serve as subject matter expert and point person for reserves, pools accounting, general accounting, and P&C SEC financial reporting. Analyze, review and evaluate financial statement data flows and relevant key controls, and solve issues and significant variances when they emerge.
- Assist in the facilitation of the annual external auditor review of accounting and reporting matters and act as team liaison with both internal and external auditors on findings/issues related to internal controls.
- Independently analyze new or emerging accounting issues and communicate potential resolutions, conclusions, and next steps to management. Support business unit management through proposal of accounting/reporting strategies.
- Drive qualitative improvements in accounting, reporting and controls to become more efficient and effective and to reduce/eliminate control deficiencies and out-of-period adjustments.
- Prepare critical analysis of accounting issues or new accounting pronouncements, provide findings in a detailed white paper, and present findings to management and auditors.
- Able to work effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously across several departments, many with short turnaround times.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
- Minimum of 4-7 years related industry experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred or equivalent work experience. MBA or CPA preferred.
- Experienced in reviewing and analyzing financial reports.
- Ability to operate with considerable independence. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical, critical thinking, presentation, influencing, and relationship management skills; effective team building skills.
