Purpose
This position is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions within the Company’s financial system. The Accountant III is also responsible for adherence to the book closing process and Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) as well as the financial analysis of results.
Accountabilities
- Adhering to the monthly book closing schedule including the processing of journal entries and analysis of accounts to accurately value accounts on the general ledger including but not limited to regulatory accounting (e.g., electric distribution, pension, environmental, etc.)
- Contributing to the preparation of the monthly financial reporting package
- Perform GL account reconciliations
- Preparing regulatory reports
- Providing guidance to field operations on account coding of expenses
- Supporting all internal units of the business including utility operations, regulatory and pricing, customer service, procurement and all administrative levels
- Providing analysis of information for users of financial information
- Providing solutions to business issues as well as embracing change as an essential component of performance
- Completing special projects as needed (e.g., support for internal, external, and regulatory audits, supporting regulatory and rate case filings)
- Preparing quarterly cash flow statement and balance sheet analytics
- Adhere to and maintain the financial results consistent with ICFR policies
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree/Associates Degree in Accounting preferred
- Work experience in the Utility industry a plus
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles required
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, professional presentation and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) particularly in Excel required.
- Understanding of regulatory accounting a plus
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial information and recognize significant variances, trends and irregularities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve by grasping the key drivers of issues and thinking through solutions that are effective and efficient
- Ability to establish a high level of confidence with internal personnel and external contacts
