Provides professional, intensive, specialized continuing case management services involving concentration in the areas of child and adult welfare; performs a broader scope of duties requiring routine utilization of greater professional knowledge and independent application of professional skill; performs other duties as assigned.

The Foster Care & Adoptions Team in Henrico is a dynamic workgroup focused on a collaborative team model that demonstrates respect for the different work styles and personalities of its members while placing great value on the peer-to-peer learning process. We have created and work hard to maintain positive relationships with others within and outside the Department while taking a trauma-informed, child and family-centered approach in our service delivery.
Essential Duties:
- Complete all case management responsibilities associated with the foster care and adoption programs including:
o Case documentation in the child welfare database OASIS using COMPASS and eScribers
o Coordinating & participating in Family Partnership Meetings, Child & Family Team Meetings, VEMATs, FAPT meetings and other collaborative processes to support youth in care
o Participating in court proceedings through filing petitions, service plans, progress and other court reports and providing testimony in court proceedings
o Conducting trauma screenings & CANS assessments
- Participate in unit, division, agency & community meetings related to the work of the Department
- Provide coverage for child welfare on-call (CPS, preservation, prevention & foster care) approximately 14 nights per 12-month calendar year (when fully staffed)
- Participate in shelter team operations as designated by the Emergency Operations Center
- Handle additional work assignments when necessary
This position is required to maintain: considerable knowledge of current social, economic and health concerns; considerable knowledge of the federal Social Security Act and of casework philosophy, methods and practices; considerable knowledge of individual and group behavior and of current literature and trends in the social work field; knowledge of community resources available to meet client’s needs; ability to make independent judgments; ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations and to deal effectively with the public; ability to plan and organize work; ability to gather facts and report them accurately and to write reports.
Four (4) year baccalaureate degree in a relevant social science field in accordance with VA Code § 63.2-219; Three (3) years of relevant social work experience; OR: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
This position may be filled as a Family Services Specialist II or Senior Family Services Specialist; commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and the needs of the department at the time of hire.
