Position Overview: Choate Construction is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Controller to join our finance team in the Atlanta office. The Assistant Controller will play a vital role in supporting the CFO and Controller, ensuring the smooth operation of accounting activities, particularly focused on construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with a passion for both construction and finance to contribute to our organization's success.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulations and accuracy.
- Accounts Payable: Oversee accurate and timely processing of pay applications, invoices, and payments by the Accounts Payable team.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in developing annual budgets and forecasts, collaborating with project managers to monitor project budgets, analyze variances, and forecast project profitability.
- Financial Systems and Processes: Utilize Construction ERP systems to streamline processes, track project costs, and optimize financial reporting.
- Audits: Coordinate external audits of financial statements, facilitating auditors' tasks.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, including training and mentoring.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Take ownership of special projects and undertake ad hoc reporting tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or similar financial certification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry, demonstrating proficiency in construction accounting principles and practices.
- Experience with Construction ERP systems (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC).
- Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
- Excellent analytical skills, capable of interpreting financial data and identifying trends relevant to construction projects.
- Thorough understanding of tax regulations and compliance requirements pertinent to construction accounting.
