Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for the position of Senior Financial Aid Counselor. The Senior Financial Aid Counselor will be responsible for the supervision of the Counseling Unit. Serve as an intricate member of the counseling unit, servicing students, processing files and reports. He/She will also be responsible for training counseling unit staff. Provide guidance to counseling unit regarding professional judgment assessments due to student’s extenuating circumstances. Other duties under essential duties. AA/EOE
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two to four years’ experience in Financial Aid (Higher Education)
- Proficient in various software applications
Preferred Qualifications
Four years plus experience in Financial Aid (Higher Education)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Counseling prospective and continuing Xavier students on financial aid programs; process files by assisting in the administering of all Title IV Financial Aid Programs. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Conduct Financial Aid workshops/presentations on and off campus. Reconcile Financial Aid programs to prohibit over awards, and to assure proper aid distribution.
- Respond to incoming telephone calls, letters, and emails.
- Gather documents for students requesting professional judgments due to extenuating circumstances. A group will meet to evaluate professional judgments cases.
- Process verification and audited files.
- Review Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and counsel students on their aid eligibility. Serves as a liaison with offices on campus, lending institutions and loan servicers, as well as federal and state agencies as it relates to the Student Financial Aid Programs.
- Other related duties by the Director, Associate Director.
