Gibson Brands is seeking a Senior Accountant to perform daily general accounting functions to properly state assets, liabilities and record revenue and expenses. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and will ensure that necessary journal entries are recorded, accurate, timely, and complete. This position will prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations to verify the integrity of financial results.
Essential Functions
- Preparation of monthly entries, financial records, account analyses and reconciling the general ledger.
- Prepare or review detailed monthly variance analyses to verify the integrity of monthly financial results.
- Prepare detailed account reconciliations, develop complex models to support journal entries, create ad hoc financial analyses. Present recommendations and proposals to accounting leadership.
- Assist in maintaining detailed internal control documentation that supports both preparation of original work and review of subordinate work.
- Ensures all accounting policies and procedures are followed. Assists in the implementation of policies, procedures and control enhancements as needed.
- Assists accounting leadership in training and developing staff accountants.
- Define and implement continuous improvement of financial and operational processes to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy of reported financial results. Identify and implement self-audit programs, where applicable, to drive quality and reporting improvements.
- Develop, test, and implement new systems, procedures and controls as needed. Define processes and provide operational support to ensure standard procedures are documented and followed.
- Analyze financial data, reports trends, and identify root causes of issues. Partner with business owners to develop and communicate recommendations for improvement actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Travel Requirements
- This position is mostly office-based with hybrid availability but may involve irregular travel.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Enhanced mathematical, data analytic and reasoning skills.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Able to prioritize work and to know when necessary to escalate concerns to management.
- Excellent level of personal organization. Must be highly detail-oriented, with the ability to handle multiple assignments promptly and effectively.
- Strong capabilities to utilize Excel to ultimately manage large data sets.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to make decisions using sound and accurate judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to work calmly in a fast-paced team environment while effectively managing multiple projects.
- Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently.
- Ability to work independently to achieve deadlines and assure accuracy of own work.
- Outstanding time management skillset with the ability to prioritize.
Required Education and Experience
- B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent degree or related work experience
- 2-5 years of experience with audit or general accounting experience. Combination of education and/or experience will be considered for the requirements listed.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 and OneStream familiarity a plus.
- CPA or CPA candidate a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Project management skills combined with ability to work as part of a team.
