Position Information:
Under the direction of the Deputy Financial Administrative Officer, the Research and Financial Analyst provides complex pre-award and post-award research administration and financial management support to assigned Principal Investigators (PIs) and faculty in the School of Education (SOE). As an integral member of the SOE/SPP Business Operations and Research Administration Team, the Research and Financial Analyst independently partners with PIs in pre-award management, including but not limited to, developing proposal budgets, packaging proposal materials for submission, and completing electronic proposal review and approval. The incumbent is responsible for all post-award management, including but not limited to, facilitating award setup, ongoing fund management with PIs, financial reporting, and award close-out. The incumbent also manages all non-contract and grant funding for assigned PIs and faculty, including but not limited to, internal UC/UCR, initial complement, gift, sales and services, and other funds. The incumbent provides strategic and high-level financial analysis, budget management, financial reporting, and guidance on payroll/personnel and procurement matters as it relates to managing funds. The incumbent must be strong in financial management and remain up-to-date with all UCR, UC and sponsor policies, procedures, and guidelines to successfully partner with PIs in administering contracts and grants and other funds. The incumbent must be aligned with the SOE and UCR's equity-oriented mission as a minority-serving institution in the Inland Empire, located on tribal lands; including a demonstrated interest and capacity to foster relationships with funding agencies aligned with SOE's equity-oriented mission and goals of creating more equitable educational environments.
This position is eligible for hybrid work.
The full salary range for the Research and Financial Analyst is $71,100 - $128,700 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $95,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

- Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices and systems.
- Ability to independently gather required information, organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.
- Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally.
- Proven ability to use spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
- Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; service orientation; critical thinking; attention to detail; ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to function as a member of a team.
- Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
- Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
- Proven skills to support equity-oriented mission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
- Experience with the preparation, submission, and financial management of federal grants (e.g., DOE, NIH, NSF, IES).
- Experience with UCR's on-line research, financial, payroll and purchasing systems and policy and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in higher education with contracts and grants administration and fiscal budgetary management.
- Experience with Kuali Sponsored Programs software.
