The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing analysis of balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts, assisting in preparation of period end journal entries, preparing reconciliations for all bank accounts, accounting for the company’s fixed assets, preparing special financial reports, and assisting in special projects assigned by the CFO, Controller or Accounting Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of management:
- Perform an initial review on all company balance sheet accounts and tie each account balance to its supporting schedules.
- Review of Disbursements, Accounts Payable, Credit File and Misc. Receipts for coding errors at period end.
- Reconcile the company bank accounts in a timely manner.
- Record fixed asset acquisitions and disposals in the fixed asset system, reconcile the fixed asset listing to the general ledger, record and reconcile activity in the fixed asset clearing account, calculate and record depreciation, review and update the schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation, review purchase orders to determine proper coding for capitalization.
- Record and reconcile all period end accruals and re-occurring entries / allocations.
- Record adjustments to fuel inventories and prepare a period end fuel analysis detailing year-over-year usage and rates.
- Partner with Operations to inventory and properly expense the usage of certain prepaid supplies (shrink wrap, labels, etc).
- Record and reconcile bank fees, interest income and interest expense.
- Reconcile Spring/Fall Food Show entries and partner with Sales & Marketing personnel to prepare a budget to actual analysis.
- Prepare periodic analysis related to repair and maintenance accounts.
- Review corporate and departmental financial statements for accuracy and provide commentary to management on significant fluctuations to prior year and trend.
Other Responsibilities:
- Record gift card transfers and reconcile weekly customer billings against third party drafts.
- Assist Accounting Manager in filing all required State and local sales/use tax returns.
- Ownership of ensuring that all company licenses and permits are renewed in a timely fashion.
- Assist the Controller and Accounting Manager to ensure that adequate internal controls are in place throughout the organization and that they are properly documented and implemented.
- Assist in the evaluation of internal control ramifications for all new and/or changes to software applications, methods of conducting business, processes, etc.
- Utilize the corporation's general ledger system to its fullest advantage - accounting, reporting, budgeting, allocations, and other features.
- Manage special projects assigned by the CFO, Controller or Accounting Manager, including operational analysis and cost reasonableness analysis.
- Assist external auditors with year-end audit: analysis, documentation, etc.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university. Entry level position; requires no related work experience.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced skills in utilizing Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Must also be comfortable learning new technologies including business intelligence tools and operational management software.
