GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Center for Analytics, Research, and Data is a church-wide resource whose mission is to gather, provide, and interpret information and trends for the purpose of illuminating the past, realizing the present, and envisioning the future of the United Church of Christ in the larger social context. CARDD aspires to build a culture of assessment and a unified, collaborative information network across all settings of the United Church of Christ.
The role of the Research Analyst is to support the team’s collection, maintenance, and analysis of data for wider church use. Specifically, this includes collecting information through surveys and other means, preparing reports, and assisting with overall data maintenance and collection for the annual Yearbook. This position also contributes to the research and report writing in collaboration with the Director of CARDD.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to Yearbook process, including preparing Necrology section and other sections on an as-needed basis
- Along with the Director and Office Coordinator for Projects and Research, coordinates and contributes to survey design and analysis
- In coordination with the Ambassador for Innovation and Engagement, consults on and builds evaluations for R&D projects
- Prepares regular reports, including:
- Conference finance/compensation report
- Synod Summary Report
- Other reports as requested
- Compiles data for projects on an as-needed basis
- Processes customized database requests for information and statistics
- Develops literature reviews and bibliographies for proposed and ongoing CARDD projects
- Conducts preliminary analyses of data sets to assist the team in planning further analyses and final research projects
- Codes open-ended survey responses
- Contributes to the research and writing of CARDD reports
- Contributes to the presentation of CARDD research at professional meetings
- Assists the Director in identifying and developing CARDD’s research priorities
- Helps maintain the integrity of existing CARDD databases through data checks, cleaning, and analysis
- Contributes to and collaborates with Director on large-scale ongoing research projects and reporting, including the Faith Communities Today (FACT) survey
- Commits to engaging and recommending data practices with a purposeful anti-oppression posture to guide decisions
- Manages the Vital Signs & Statistics Blog, operations, content, and contributors
- Curates the Special Reports section of CARDD’s Statistical Profile
- Additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree or equivalent in a social science or data-related discipline, or a combination of academic study and experience, Ph.D preferred.
- Experience using SPSS and Excel; experience with additional statistical software preferred
- Prior experience in data cleaning and management, analysis, and report-writing as well as survey research
- High level of familiarity with religion-related sociological research and data
- Accurate data entry skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Self-motivated

OTHER:
This position is based in Cleveland, OH and requires at least 3 days in the office.
