JOB SUMMARY – The Finance Generalist is responsible for all areas relating to accounting and financial reporting for Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. The Financial Generalist is responsible for analyzing department data, identifying opportunities for process improvement, and developing recommendations to monitor and sustain operational best practices within the company. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including financial reporting, month end, quarter end, and year end reporting and audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Finance Generalist will provide direct support to Controller and Sr. Director Finance with all special projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS –
- Prepares month-end accruals for assigned departments, factoring in accounts payable activity, experience averages, and calculated estimates.
- Assists in preparing journal entries.
- Assists in analyzing monthly financial statements including budget and prior year variance reports.
- Investigates variances from the P&L analysis, providing guidance for the department heads and the Finance team.
- Prepare gaming analysis for Video Poker and Historical Horse Racing Machines.
- Assists in month-end deadlines including corporate presentations.
- Prepare weekly and daily financial reporting.
- Assists in budget preparation and presentation.
- Prepare monthly market comparisons.
- Supports the inventory count and purchasing system needs as necessary.
- Prepares labor analysis on routine basis.
- Prepares ad-hoc analysis on routine basis.
- Assists with special projects as assigned by management.
- Promotes outstanding customer relations.
- Promotes honesty and trust amongst the team.
- Other duties as assigned.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Available to work when needed, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related area is preferred.
- 1-2 years of related accounting experience.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the necessary functions of this position.
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment and effectively communicate with guests, co-workers and management.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time without difficulty.
- Willing to work with recent college graduates within an MBA program and/or business program.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES: Must be 21 years or older. Must be able to obtain a Louisiana Gaming License, HHR License and Racing License.
